Create your own homepage

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the basis of Web pages. Web pages are ASCII text that has been marked up with HTML tags. Your browser interprets those tags, factors in your preferences, and displays the page on your computer.

Grabbing a page

You can create your own start-up page. To get a jump start, copy any page you've seen in your browser. This page contains several commonly used HTML tags.

  1.  File | Save As (or CTRL + S)

Then, use any editor to make some changes. I'm going to use MS Write. It is easy enough to change the titles as well as replicate a few lines.

Since you don't have easy access to a Web server, you can take advantage of the fact your browser can access your local hard disk just as easily as the Internet. Use the file:// designation.  (or just omit it -- c: gets you there. )

To make this page your start-up page:

    'page location' = c:\temp\base.htm

mozilla
  1.  Edit | Preferences
  2. select Navigator category
  3. enter page location in 'Home page' box
  4. click 'Home page' radio button in 'Navigator starts with' section.

  1. View | Options
  2. click on Navigation tab
  3. select Page as 'Start page'
  4. enter page location in Address
