While on vacation in Hawaii with my parents and sister, we spent a day at Volcanoes National Park. After making the loop around the craters, we headed down to the coast where lava was flowing into the sea. The road stops where it's covered in lava, leaving us with hike over rough lava to the viewing location. It was a spectacular show, though, and we stayed until well after sunset watching nature form new land. Some of the photos were taken by my dad and Catherine, and Catherine also gets credit for the surprisingly effective technique of using binoculars as a telephoto lens.
