"The basil lady"

Each year it seems like we start the spring with the best of intentions about planting a garden. This year was especially dry and we just never seemed to have the time or inclination to water the garden. Some things, like the basil, parsley, and cherry tomatoes survived in abundance. After washing the leaves we dried them and put them in the freezer.

Web 'grrrrl'

With Matthew away in California, Catherine has access not only to our two computers but also to Matthew's. She fires it up occasionally for a game of pinball, or for the word processor if Sonia or I is using the other computer. The 386 in the back is relegated to SimCity and updating the calendar we keep on the refrigerator.

"Working late at the Nashville conference"

"Yes, Sonia, they really worked us hard at the XPLOR conference. Sessions began at 7:15 a.m.... and it was work, work, work, all day and late into the night. You can never get too much networking!" Tux? Oh, that tux! Just my usual evening attire... (see below).

Climbing the walls at VT

David had so much stuff in his room, that even after he finished completely filling the grand caravan, both Matthew and I walked by his room, looked in, and asked "What did he take?" David took this picture with a digital camera borrowed from school and 'sent' it home.

"The tux explained"

While attending the XPLOR conference in November, I was chosen to receive the Chairman's Award in recognition for the contributions that I have made over the years to the XPLOR organization and the electronic document industry. It was a great honor and I was quite happy the rest of the evening as you can see by these additional pictures. Sonia said to take lots of pictures " 'cause I don't get to see you in a tuxedo too often". Including the women in the pictures was my idea. Sonia is 'reconsidering' my attending future conferences without her!

Enjoying the California air

Matthew did not waste anytime enjoying the California countryside. He spent the fall semester working full time as a co-op student at the Sandia National Research Labs in Livermore, California. Sonia took this great picture the two days after they got to California. They had taken along a tent and camped out in Yosemite National Park. Matthew has been getting plenty of 'air', riding his bike to and from work, rain or shine.

 Catherine
"The annual school mug shot"
Catherine school thumb

Catherine's school day starts when she leaves the house at 6:45 a.m. (actually about 6:15 a.m. when I throw her out of bed!). Lunch is at a more reasonable hour instead of last year's 10:30 a.m. Homework isn't too bad, but it is still nice to have Dad around to help with the occasional math problem.

A small case of the giggles

Nothing like an excuse to get away from the Thanksgiving dinner table, even if it is to get their picture taken.

 Jack & Catherine
"Happy Halloween"

Carving 'Jack' was a cooperative effort. Catherine scooped out the guts after I cut open the top. She also drew the details of the face which I then transferred onto 'Jack'.

Our Christmas letter has a few more details about what we've been up to over the last year.
